- Kokeshi Dolls with Patty Greenspoon: Thursday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. Create Japanese Kokeshi Dolls with decorated kimonos on a standing armature in their own mini Japanese garden. Write a Haiku poem in a mini book.

- Friends of Bushrod Library & Art Sphere, Inc. invite you to join our Mural and Bookmaking Event. Come celebrate community service with educational arts projects and take home craft activities! Wednesdays: January 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We will be working with stencils, origami, and bookmaking during art workshops, and mural painting activities to celebrate the community and the resources that the library has to offer. Please come prepared to paint with acrylic and water-based permanent paints. Bring old clothes and your creativity! See worksheets at front desk to sketch or write your ideas.
- Friends will sponsor a series of Computer Introduction Workshops from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursdays, January 7, 14, 21, and 28. Classes will cover basic computer topics such as: starting the computer,using a keyboard and mouse, saving documents, and navigating Windows and the internet.

- The Friends will host a Two Sisters Gourmet Fundraiser at the branch on Wednesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. Everyone who attends will also get a free BINGO card. Wait until you taste and see all of the new products available!

- The annual Book Sale and Craft & Demo Show will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fox Chase Library. The Book Sale will be held in the meeting room while the Craft & Demo Show will take place outside. Sweets and treats will be available for purchase and a raffle will be held with the drawing at 2:00 p.m. A leftovers sale will take place on the following Monday and Tuesday.

This will be followed by the Friends and other volunteers clearing ground, laying compost & mulch, and planting beds of roses. Volunteers are welcome and NEEDED! Bring your hats, gloves, and sunscreen and come on out. Refreshments will be provided. This garden is made possible by generous donations and support from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Fairmount Park, and Councilman Curtis Jones.

- In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Lovett Library, the Friends of Lovett present the 2010 Frank Wister Thomas Memorial Lecture: Who Were the Mt. Airy Lovetts?: Stories of a Family and of a Library by David T, Moore, Mt. Airy historian and genealogist. Wednesday, March 17. Refreshments available at 6:30 p.m. with the program beginning promptly at 7:15 p.m.
Oak Lane
- Soul Line Dancing: Wednesday, July 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring a friend and your dancing shoes! No experience necessary.
- The Outreach Lecture Program: funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and by the Friends of the Oak Lane Branch Library.
- Cleopatra: The Last Great Pharaoh of Egypt, Wednesday, July 21 2:00 p.m. Come and learn about the famous queen Cleopatra. Leslie Warden, PhD student and archaeologist will be speaking and showing artifacts. Everyone ages 7 and up is welcome!
- Raven’s Feast Puppet Show, Tuesday, July 20 at 3:15 p.m. All welcome! Steve Abrams, professional puppeteer will be presenting a program of folktales.
- Tai Chi: Thursdays, July 15, 22, and 29 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Learn the gentle art of Tai Chi. No experience necessary. Financial support given by the Friends of the Oak Lane Branch Library.
- The Friends of the Oak Lane Library will be sponsoring a series of Free Lectures on East Oak Lane Architecture. The event will be held at the Korean United Church of Philadelphia, PCA, at 12th Street and 1200 W. Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia, 19126 at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays: March 7, 14, and 28, 2010. All lectures will be followed by a reception. Free Parking is available in KUC Lot at 70th and Old York Road. - March 7: John J. DiBenedetto, FARA - John DiBenedetto of the Jenkintown based architectural firm DiBenedetto & Associates will expand on his Drexel University dissertation. He wrote this along with Vincent A. Girondi: Oak Lane, A Study of Urban Growth and Architectural Development, 1876-1976, Philadelphia, 1976.
- March 14: Marita Krivda, MS - Marita Krivda, librarian & historian, will expand on some of the special Victorian buildings and T. Henry Asbury the father of Victorian Oak Lane.
- March 28: David S. Traub, AIA - David S. Traub, prominent Center City architect, will discuss his preservation efforts with the Save Our Sites non-profit devoted to preventing the demolition of historic Philadelphia properties. He will discuss the Bauhaus style homes in East Oak Lane.
- Friends of the Oak Lane Library sponsor a Valentine's Concert on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of the Korean United Church (1200 W. Cheltenham Ave.) and admission is only $10. The evening will feature Miss Eva Young, piano, who has performed internationally in four countries and is the winner of a major piano concerto competition. She is a graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, has an MS from University of Michigan and a licentiate from the Royal Academy of Music in London. In addition we will have several other excellent musicians joining the concert. Michael Ronstadt, cellist, has an MS in cello performance from Cincinnatti Conservatory and is the nephew of Linda Ronstadt. Also, John Frazer, on clarinet, will join the evening concert. He has performed in many quartets with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, has played with Van Cliburn and also the Manhattan Transfer. Finally we have Dr. Cong Fan, a piano player who has performed at Carnegie Hall and teaches at Temple University. Free parking is available in the KUC Lot at 70th Ave. and Old York Road. Walk out the back and take the sidewalk directly to the rear of the church on 12th street. A reception will follow with a mix and mingle hour. We would like to fill the hall, so bring ALL of your friends.

- Friends of David Cohen Ogontz Library present their annual Spring Fling on Saturday, May 8 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Live Music by Jazz Flutist Walter Bell & Trio from 1:00 to 2:00 and Local Young Talent. Food (for $1.00), Drinks, Vendors, children activities, Mother's Day Basket Drawing, and of course discounted books for sale and more. Free to attend!
